There are currently multiple different things being done with the trees killed by the mountain pine beetle and the major projects have there own links to pages that describe them. These different projects are all important to the BC forestry economy and in the case of bioenergy to the hydro industry as well.

The First one is the Bioenergy initiative, which is basically using the dead pine and other waste wood to generate electricity. Both the province of BC and BC hydro are involved in making this happen. My page on the bioenergy initiative can be found here.

The second use of the dead pine is for log homes. The blue stain left behind from the pine beetle is a decorative feature that some log home buyers want. Using the infested pine has a more gentle impact on our environment than using normal trees. My web page with more information is found here. This also includes other constructions using the pine.
